Billy Bauer: Plectrist

Guitarist Billy Bauer recorded only one album as a leader. The album was Plectrist, and it featured Andrew Ackers on piano, Milt Hinton on bass and Osie Johnson on drums. Bauer wasn't shy. The reason for the sole leadership date was Bauer's workload as a sideman. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Bauer recorded relentlessly in bands and groups, preferring to play a supporting role. Producer Norman Granz virtually had to beg Bauer to record Plectrist for his Norgran label, cutting off Bauer repeatedly each time Bauer tried to explain how busy he was and why he couldn't do it. Bauer had a natural, swinging style that was essential for keeping 1940s big-band rhythm sections on track. A superb sight-reader, Bauer had great taste in chord structures and improvisational lines. What's more, he was confident and clear, which is why he was in such demand.

Only few readers will remember my first post ever. It was called 'Boom' and showed a video of the largest H-Bomb ever detonated, the so-called 'Tsar Bomba'. This huge hydrogen bomb is part of an insane Russian/Soviet tradition to build big, big, big, big things. No matter whether the population was starving to death, big prestigious building, ships and bombs had to be constructed to leave a testimonial of Soviet supremacy.

Neatorama has collected seven of the most insane Soviet projects ever. Among them is the 50 Megaton Tsar Bomba, a 335 feet high Palace of the People and the world's largest hydrofoil.

Thessed to show up regulary fodeent prices but dn't seen eitr f lon time...so to put myself out of misery icked this one up from a dealer. Of coue one showed up on Ebay 7 d later and went for a tenth (yep, really) of hat I paid the dealer...Aargh!!!

Elevator music, also known as lift music (in the Commonwealth), piped music or muzak, refers to the gentle, bland instrumental arrangements of popular music designed for play in shopping malls, grocery stores, department stores, public toilets, telephone systems (while the caller is on hold), cruise ships, airports, doctors' and dentists' offices and, of course, elevators. The term is also frequently applied as a generic (and often derogatory) term for any form of Easy Listening, smooth jazz, or MOR music, or to the type of recordings once commonly heard on "beautiful music" radio stations.

The Muzak corporation is perhaps the best-known supplier of such music. In fact, the term muzak has become a generic epithet for excessively bland music. However, Muzak moved away from this type of music, for the most part, in 1997[1] and now uses only "original artists" for its music source, except on the Environmental channel.[2]

Clowns Are Scary

Clowns are scary, but that doesn't mean you should go around shooting them. Two clowns from the traveling circus Circo del Sol de Cali were gunned down during a performance in the town of Cucuta, Colombia, in front of dozens of kids and their parents. One clown died instantly. The other was rushed to a hospital and died the next day. One of the clowns was killed instantly and the second died the next day in hospital.

The scariest clown ever was John Wayne Gacy, pictured here as Pogo the Clown, whom he dressed as often for kids' parties near his Chicago home. Gacy was a clown-cum-pedophile-cum-serial killer who destroyed 33 boys between the ages of 9 and 20, most of them prostitutes. Gacy's insanity defense failed miserably and Clownface was executed in 1994. His last meal was shrimp, fried chicken, fresh strawberries and french fries. His last words were "You can kiss my ass." His execution took 18 minutes, much longer than it should have due to some fuck-up by inexperienced executioners.

If only Mr. Clown Killa Man in Colombia had been roaming through the streets of Chicago in the 70s, he might have successfully stopped Gacy from devouring so many little boys.
